Unleash your creativity with our rock painting session just for teens! Grab some paint and transform ordinary rocks into colorful works of art. Whether you want to create fun designs, meaningful patterns, or unique keepsakes, this activity is the perfect way to relax and get creative.

Junior Lawn Bowls [FREE] | When: Weekly | 2.00 pm - 4.30 pm | Wellington Point Bowls Club, Redlands Sporting Club (Anson Street, Wellington Point)

Free weekly coaching of all ages

Come along just for fun and if you enjoy the sport you can learn how to play the game and get to play against kids from other clubs.

Families encouraged to join in as it's a sport for all ages and families can play together.

This is a non-contact sport but engages the mind and everyone has so much fun.

Holiday times from 2pm.

During school terms coaching is from 3.30pm–4.30pm.

Come along and learn how to make cool paper shapes and animals with origami! Kids will have fun folding paper into frogs, cranes, and more. It’s a great way to get creative and learn something new. Origami is a great way to enhance fine motor skills, patience, and creativity.

Children's Emergency Awareness Training with Lifesaving Hands [Ticketed] | When: 23 January 2025 |10-11.30 am| Birkdale School of Arts Community Hall, Birkdale

This training is designed to actively involve participants in learning crucial first aid and common medical emergency skills.

The approach is both enjoyable and educational, aiming to empower children to confidently handle emergencies and provide parents with peace of mind.

Cost is $20 per child

This workshop is designed to not only foster children's creativity but also enhance their motor skills in an engaging and interactive manner.

Join a meetup for makers, designers, fabricators and anyone interested in learning new skills or getting hands on with digital and fabrication like-minded folk. No induction or booking resources are necessary during the meetup, just head along to Open lab on a Thursday evening and have a chat to staff. 

We occasionally run community projects, designing and building with project outcomes in mind.

Available resources include:

  • Two laser cutters
  • 3D printers
  • Vinyl cutter
  • Sewing machines & overlocker
  • Soldering stations

How do I find it? Make your way to The Edge and ask at reception, or head to the Innovation lab, next to our Digital Media lab.

Open lab hours 

Open lab sessions are: Wednesday 1:30 pm – 8.00 pm, Thursday 1:30 – 8:00 pm and Saturday 12 noon – 5:00 pm 

Please note, equipment bookings are required for all Open lab sessions except at our weekly meet up, Hack the Evening on Thursdays from 5 – 8 pm.

Are you a maker, designer or fabricator? Or are you someone interested in learning new skills and getting hands on with digital and fabrication resources?

This is your chance to get creative during our Open lab sessions at The Edge, and engage with a community of like-minded creators.

Camera Obscura Workshop [Ticketed] | When: 18 December 2024 and 8, 15 & 22 January 2025 | 2.00 - 3.00pm | The Museum of Brisbane (The Studio, City Hall)

Join us for a hands-on adventure where you’ll transform a simple cardboard box into your very own camera obscura!

In this fun, hour-long workshop, you’ll dive into the basics of optics with a quick demo on how light works its magic. Then, the real fun begins – you’ll build your own camera box and personalize it with colorful washi tape, stickers, and all sorts of creative decorations.

By the end, you’ll have a unique, functional camera obscura to take home – plus the skills to impress your friends with your new understanding of light and images!

Ever wanted to have a Museum all to yourself? Gather up your favourite little art lovers these school holidays for an exciting and very exclusive adventure as we open our doors early just for you with the return of our Young Explorers Tours!

In this fully immersive excursion, your little art fan will go on a special tour of our exhibition New Light: Photography Now + Then and use exploratory games and activities to learn more about contemporary image making.

They’ll be able to get hands on with some real life artworks with our special interactive touch trolley before trying their hand at making a creation to take home and keep.

Parents and carers can choose to tag along or sit back and relax in the Dome Gallery while they wait.
