Paper Cutting Art - Teen Event 

Create a stunning fruit still life using contemporary papercutting techniques in this art workshop. Guided by artist Pamela See, this art workshop pays homage to early Chinese gardeners of the Redlands for their contributions towards farming grapes, citrus, lychees, maize and pineapples, and for establishing the local banana industry. The papercutting medium is believed to have emerged from agricultural regions of the Yellow River, in China, between the 4th and 6th centuries CE. This workshop is primarily designed for teenagers.

Mozzies Under the Microscope  

Explore the miniature world of mosquitoes in our mozzies talk! Learn about their impact on the environment, and have a look at real mosquitoes under a microscope.

Join author Dave Lowe for this highly interactive session exploring all the tips and tricks that authors use to write great stories. We’ll cover plotting, creating characters, strong openings, dialogue and humour, as well as working on a sentence level with specialised editing skills such as show vs tell. Take your budding young writer on an adventure through their imagination, as they write and create their very own stories, worlds, characters and more.

Join author Dannika Patterson for an adventure into the art of haiku poetry.  Using Dannika's book SeaSpray17: Ocean Photography and Haiku Poetry as a point of reference, you'll be inspired to create your own haiku in this highly interactive workshop. Using a mix of photographs, sensory prompts and collected stimuli from nature, you'll tune into your senses to practise the art of haiku: capturing a moment in time in poetic form.

Using laser cut components, paint, glue, and your imagination, assemble, customise and decorate your very own mini Queenslander community library. Explore the intricate details of the humble Queenslander and paint your own mini stained-glass windows and architraves to add to your creation. Decide your own colour palette and sprinkle with creativity to add your unique touch. Best of all, once the workshop is complete, you can proudly take your one-of-a-kind creation home, ready to share the joy of reading and sharing with your community.
